Hi everyone:
Apologies for
neglecting the web page somewhat; are in the throes of booking our
second overseas tour; this one to UK, again in September. We are excited
about being included in the prestigious festival at Ulster American
Folk Park in Omagh (near Belfast), along with headliner and fellow
Yank Dale Ann Bradley. We'll take a swing through Ireland proper,
then over to southern England for the Cornwall Bluegrass Festival
in Newquay, then up to Scotland to finish with the Moniaive Bluegrass
Festival in Dumfires, now in its second year. Our good friend Wayne
Taylor kicked off the festival last year and recommended it highly.
We'll be there for a month.
On the home front,
can hardly believe it's been just over a year since JD joined us full
time on mandolin. He even moved down here from New Hampshire to be
closer to the action, and dad Roger is very happy cause we get to
see him lots! He's been penning his own tunes, and we think they are
wonderful, complex, layered, nuanced. Keeps me on my toes on rhythm
guitar. He's got some recording software in his little apartment and
recorded the tunes playing every single instrument--mando, fiddle,
guitar, bass, and bowed bass! We're working the tunes up and will
be sure to have them ready for when we play JD's hometown in East
Hampton, CT on July 1, almost a year to the day from when he moved
down here.
We took a mid-February
trip up to the little town of Dalhousie, New Brunswick, with cooperative
weather, thank heavens. It seemed like the whole town, and surrounding
environs, turned out for the show, and for the meet and greet and
late picking session at Silly Billy's across the street. Thanks again
to the fine folks of the Bon Ami Festival committee for having us
up for this special show along with the Douthwrights from Canada.
After ten years,
long-time ("long suffering") bassist John Urbanik finally
made good on his threats to retire from the road and spend more time
at home with his family. We miss him but have been busy working former
Joe Val bassist Eric Levenson into the slot. We have a busy summer
coming up here, including two trips to Canada, one to Evangeline Festival
on Prince Edward Island, where we will be joined by our good friend
Dave Shaw on banjo, and the Conestoga Trails festival in Kingston,
Ontario, where we will be accompanied by our new "sometime"
fiddler, Grand National Fiddle Champion Kimber Ludiker. She'll be
performing with us a bunch this summer in preparation for this and
the UK tour, so be sure to check out the gigs on the Concerts
page.
Be well,
AmyG
